Moving in takes minutes, not a weekend
Coming from Scrivener?
Tintero imports complete Scrivener projects, preserving your folder structure and character data. This is not copying and pasting chapter by chapter: you import the project and carry on where you left off.
How the move works
Three steps, and none of them is rebuilding your manuscript by hand.
Find your project
On disk, a Scrivener project is a folder with a .scriv extension. You don't need to export it first or convert it to any intermediate format.
Import it into Tintero
Tintero reads the whole project: folder structure, chapters and character sheets, and puts them where they belong in the new project.
Keep writing
You check everything landed where you expected and carry on. From there you get characters, worldbuilding and PlotGrid on top of the same manuscript.
What you gain by switching
What actually changes once the manuscript is inside.
Offline, and no account needed
Download the app, create a project and write. An account is only needed to sync across devices or share a text; everything else works without signing up and without internet.
On Windows, Linux, Android and the browser
The same app on the desktop, on your phone and as a web version. Published on Google Play, Flathub and the Snap Store.
Characters and worlds built in
Character sheets that highlight themselves in the text, connected worldbuilding and PlotGrid to follow your arcs — no rigging it up out of folders and loose notes.
Nothing gets trapped inside
Export to PDF, EPUB, DOCX, RTF, Markdown and Fountain. If you ever leave, your writing comes out in formats any other tool can read.
Before you move
Is my folder and chapter structure preserved?
Yes. Tintero imports complete Scrivener projects preserving the folder structure and character data, not just the plain text.
Does it import from bibisco too?
Yes. The importer covers complete Scrivener and bibisco projects, preserving structure and characters in both cases.
What does it cost?
Tintero is in beta and the app is free. Online features might be paid in the future; during the beta they are free for anyone who joins now.
Does it work offline, the way I'm used to?
Yes. Tintero is built to work offline with all its functionality, and zero telemetry is sent when you work offline.
Bring your project over
Download it, or try it in the browser before installing anything.
